WAKEFIELD MUST ENGAGE TO BENEFIT IS THE MESSAGE FROM THE NORTHERN POWERHOUSE

Using the event as a platform to engage with the business community on behalf of NPP, the independent body that represents the voice of business and civic leaders across the North, McPhillips will highlight the important and exciting things that are planned for the Northern Powerhouse but warns that Wakefield needs to make sure it engages with them to benefit fully!

Encouraging collaboration for a more prosperous North, McPhillips will demonstrate the importance of each individual in Wakefield taking responsibility to deliver a Northern Powerhouse so that we can create a movement that we are proud of and where our families can live, work and play.

Andrew McPhillips, comments:

“There are fifteen million people living and working in the North, we have some of the most vibrant, productive and diverse cities, towns and communities. Together, by celebrating our successes and achievements and highlighting areas where we need support, we can create more investment, earn more investment and demand more investment.

“The Northern Powerhouse involves us all, it can only be a success if we all work together to achieve a more prosperous North. A thriving North means a thriving UK, we’re not competing with London or the rest of the country.’

Placing the spotlight on inspiring our young people if we are to succeed in creating a dynamic world of work, McPhillips will also invite district-wide businesses to step up and to commit to opening our children’s eyes to the range of skilled jobs available to them.

“There are many ways to thrive including driving the ambition of young people,” adds McPhillips.

“Work-based education through modern apprenticeships will be crucial in delivering this ambition; a young person choosing this route is equal to anyone who chooses to pursue a traditional education.

“We’ll be inviting local businesses to commit to this, to providing support in helping our youngsters to recognise and have crucial experience of the world of work.”

Andrew McPhillips, Chief Economist at the Northern Powerhouse Partnership will take to the stage for Wakefield and the Northern Powerhouse at 09:30am on Wednesday 3rd October at Unity Hall as part of the WBC.

WBC is a showcase for potential investors and will focus on the growth and prosperity of the district, concentrating on the future and a shared commitment to the city and surrounding towns.
